Avatar arrives in Detroit with midnight showings in IMAX 3-D

20th Century Fox Film Co.

The wait is over:  Avatar has arrived.  It has been 12 years since James Cameron's last movie, Titanic, became the most successful movie in history.  Starting tonight with several midnight showings in the Detroit/Metro area, you will be able to witness what some are calling the best cinematic experience ever.

Watch Trailers of this week's new releases.

Though some movies are opening up in limited release in New York and California,  only one other movie in the Detroit area is sharing a wide release.  Did You Hear About the Morgans? starring Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker opens as well.

An interesting bit of counter-programming, many local theatres are having midnight showings of Did You Hear About the Morgans? as well, which is not typically for romantic comedies.  But with the overwhelming expected response to Avatar, many theatres would hate to turn away movie-goers who show up and are turned away from sold-out Avatar shows.  Having another option open may appeal to those who can't find their way into Avatar.

Over at the Main Art Theatre in Royal Oak, Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans begins playing on Friday, December 18th as well.  Today is also the last day that you can see the exclusive engagement of The Strip at the Main Art.
