The new movie Inception has romance, action, chase scenes, special effects, dreams, explosions, and oceans, rain, mountaintops, slow motion plus the kitchen sink and leaves you wanting more. Leonardo DiCaprio (Titanic, Shutter Island) plays Dom Cobb, the mastermind leading a team of corporate espionage thieves using dream technology to extract information from high profile executives. In an effort to get back home to his family, Cobb and his team are hired to plant an idea instead of stealing information. Joining DiCaprio to round out the cast of this mind blowing film is Ellen Page (Whip It, Juno), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (500 Days of Summer), Tom Hardy (Layer Cake), Dileep Rao (Avatar) and Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai).

Inception will have you thinking from the start of the movie with its opening scene of an old Watanabe and a younger DiCaprio. The cast gives the audience a performance that is not only believable, but compelling as well. Both Page and Gordon-Levitt deliver such a great performance it leaves the audience wanting more scenes with just the two of them. Although it feels like you have seen Leonardo DiCaprio play this character before, he is very convincing as a guy who has been torn from his family and is desperate to get back home. Every time you see DiCaprio on screen, you feel his need to get back home to his family and you understand his pain so well that you wish it were yours and not his.

Inception is just under two hours and thirty minutes, but it doesn’t feel that long. The acting is great and the dream sequences keep you involved with the story all the way to the very end. It’s pleasing to see that this movie is not being presented in 3-D like everything else is this summer. The story and acting are so good it doesn’t need such cheesy effects to draw an audience.

Inception is a must see movie in the theater! The story, acting and special effects are worth the full price of admission, not only once but twice. If you’re planning on seeing only one movie this summer, Inception is the one to see. When you go to see this move, and you should, be ready to put your thinking cap on. It may require more than one trip just to catch all the many story lines being told in all the different dream sequences, but it is well worth it.

Overall rating: 5 out of 5 giant swinging mirrors
The Motion Picture Association of America rating PG-13
