Despicable Me or despicably funny?

Despicable Me is surprisingly funnier than one would imagine. Although this film come out on the heals of Toy Story 3, it has what it takes to make the audience happy and laugh their pants off. Steve Carell (The Office and The 40 Year Old Virgin) plays the voice of Gru, an evil villain who really is not that impressive. Since Gru was a little boy he wanted to be special in the eyes of his mother (voiced by Julie Andrews, The Sound of Music ) and has come up with a plot that no other super villain has thought of before. In an effort to fund his grand caper Gru faces roadblocks from the Bank of Evil and a younger more creative super villain Vector (voiced by Jason Segel, How I Met Your Mother).

Steve Carell and Jason Segel both bring their zany humor and ability to make people laugh to their characters. Mr. Carell’s acting ability shines through with a convincing performance, showing that Gru is not only evil but also has a heart. Jason Segel’s ability to play an upcoming evil villain brings some snarky humor to the movie that both kids and adults will enjoy. The minions (Gru’s little helpers) as well as the girls (the children Gru adopts to foil Vector) not only bring some of the most gut busting humor but also provide some of the most touching moments in the movie. the children will fall in love with the minions, both young and old!

This movie is well worth seeing in the theater and is worth the full price of admission. Take the family out now and see it as soon as possible.

Rating: 4 glowing minions out of 5
