Julie & Julia explores two parallel lives of Julie Powell (Amy Adams) and Julia Child, (Meryl Streep) taken from the true stories of Julia Child My Life in France and Julie Powell’s Julie & Julia. .Julie Powell is a fledgling writer who decides to cook her way through Julia Child’s cookbook, “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.” In the journey she tries to balance her life, work and relationship. The story parallels Julia’s life before her fame as author and television chef, and in Paris facing the challenges of being an American woman at the Cordon Bleu.
It’s rare to find a film really cooks and his some deep emotional beats. But when it’s a film Nora Ephron has written and directed you know that the final product is going to be a master piece. The comical beats of Julia’s life in Paris and her roadblocks of trying to get her first cookbook published over an eight year period wonderfully offset the depth of the Julie Powell’s character, and her relationship, marriage and passions. Meryl Streep’s portrayal of Julia Child captures her essence and her sense of passion of cooking.
This film is worth 123 minutes of your time.
