At the number 3 spot on the “total box office revenue” list is Tom Hanks. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born on July 9, 1956 in Concord, California. He has two brothers and a sister. Hanks now has three sons and a daughter of his own. Tom studied theater at California State University in Sacramento.

Tom Hanks began his acting career on the stage as Grumio in “The Taming of the Shrew” in Cleveland, Ohio in 1978. His stage career did not last long as he landed a role on the television series “Bosom Buddies” where he played a man pretending to be a woman in an effort to live in a cheap, women-only apartment building. I can hear Robert Downey Jr. saying, “I’m the dude playing the dude disguised as another dude!” Hanks got his first film role in He Knows You’re Alone in 1980 and was paid $800. His first starring role, and breakout performance, came 4 years later when he was in Splash. 1988 put the spotlight back on Tom as he received his first Best Actor Academy Award nomination for his role in Big. His first of many pairings with Meg Ryan came in 1990 with Joe Versus the Volcano. Hanks has had many terrific and award-winning performance is films such as Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan, and many more.
