At the number 4 spot on the “total box office revenue” list is Tom Cruise. Thomas Cruise Mapother, IV was born on July 3, 1962 in Syracuse, New York. He was the second youngest of four children and the only boy. He now has two daughters and a son of his own. His son and older daughter were both adopted while he was with Nicole Kidman. His second daughter was born in 2006 to Cruise’s current wife, Katie Holmes.
Tom’s feature film career began in 1981 with a small role in the film Endless Love. That same year he had a larger role in the film Taps. Undoubtedly, Cruise’s breakout role came in 1983 when he played Joel Goodson in Risky Business. After several more fairly successful roles, Tom launched his career into the sky with his starring role in Top Gun in 1986. He separated himself from the rest of the acting world by following this stunning performance with several more terrific roles in films like The Color of Money (1986), Cocktail (1988), Rain Man (1988), and Born on the Fourth of July (1989). A string of films like that, plus many others, has solidified Tom Cruise’s status as one of the greatest actors of all time.
