The Gotham Independent Film Awards were announced tonight in New York City.
The big winner of the night was Kathyrn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker. The Iraq War drama about an elite bomb defusing unit, which also took home the award for Best Ensemble Performance, beat out other indie heavyweights such as Amreeka, Big Fan, The Maid, and The Coen Brothers' comedy A Serious Man.
Though many thought Jeremy Renner was a lock for Breakthrough Actor for his performance in The Hurt Locker, the award went to Catalina Saavedra for her title role in The Maid.
Breakthrough Director went to The Wrestler screenwriter Robert Siegel for Big Fan which stars comedian Patton Oswalt as a obsessive New York Giants fan.
Food Inc. won Best Documentary while Ry Russo-Young's You Won't Miss Me nabbed the humorously titled Best Film Not Playing At A Theater Near You prize.
The awards ceremony also included career tributes to The Hurt Locker's director Kathryn Bigelow, Natalie Portman, Stanley Tucci, and producers Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.
The gala event took place at New York's Cipriani Wall Street and not in Bruce Wayne's 'hood as the awards' title suggests.

love the title!
THE HURT LOCKER is a great movie. If you haven't seen it.. see it before it goes away completely.
