Against his daughter's wishes, retired motorcycle mechanic and inventor, Paulo Roberto Vieira, rode his Honda CG 150 Titan motorcycle an amazing 21,819 miles from southern Brazil to Washington D.C. Like Brammo representatives, lead designer, Brian Wismann and Crispin, Dave Schiff, who rode from Detroit to Washington D.C. on a quest to see the president and give him a Brammo electric motorcycle, Paulo rode to see the president in hopes that he would resolve a patent issue on his invention. His four month journey took him through 11 countries and through the Amazon. He crossed into the United States via Mexico to Texas. Initially, he was unable to enter because he was denied a visa by U.S. consulates in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. He rode 1600 kilometers back to Guatamala where he caught a flight home, secured the visa in a matter of days, and flew back to Guatamala to head back north and with the proper papers, entered the United States on October 21st.
Paulo had invented a device that measures tire pressure and alerts the motorist when the pressure is low. He registered it for a patent in Brazil in 1999. A similar device is being used in vehicles in the United States under a US patent, and Paulo has been fighting for his international rights as the inventor. When he left his home in Brazil last June, his intended destination was Brasilia where he hoped his government could resolve his problem. When they failed to help him, he decided to go to Washington. He said ''I decided to come here because Washington is where things get done, Barack Obama is already solving so many other problems. How much more trouble would it be for him to solve mine?'' (the Washington Post)
Like the Brammo duo, he was unable to get in to see the President, and declared a victory "at least for now". He enjoyed the city as a tourist riding around Washington D.C. and taking photos before preparing for the long journey home.
