The event started early and in accordance with its name and purpose – namely, the honoring and remembering of fallen service men and women, particularly our locals. The solemnity of the official ceremonies at the FWM was actually a refreshing statement that we do value, we do remember and we will not forget. After all, it was the de facto “forgetting” of a local fallen soldier that prompted John Cordova to create the FWM Foundation.
Official presentation of colors, pledge of allegiance and singing of the Star Spangled Banner got things rolling and were conducted with full military professionalism, seen here:
We were then treated to a discussion by John Cordova about the origins of the FWM, its ongoing mission and the dedicated veterans who make it work. Additionally, Congressional Medal of Honor winner Jon Cavaiani gave a motivational and inspiring message of patriotism, sacrifice and not forgetting. The formal ceremonies were closed with a stirring rendition of “Taps,”
With that, it was time for a little fun. For some, the fun consisted of walking up and down the closed main street ogling the custom and vintage cars and motorcycles. For others (like yours truly), it was time to fire up the bikes and head into the hills for the poker run (read it here).

He has tirelessly attempted to not let the names of out fallen be forgotten as so many of our brethren in Viet Nam. It is his wish that never again should our military personnel be forgotten. The support of the merchants of El Dorado Town Center was appreciated and invaluable. The FWF Foundation is wholeheartedly supported by the Folsom VFW, American Legion, Am Vets, Military Order of the Purple Heart and naturally the United States Marine Corps League. The members of all the above veterans organizations encourage the public's participation and support in such a worthy effort.
