It's Saturday in Laughlin, NV, and that means the peak of the 2010 Laughlin River Run. As predicted, crossing the river back from Bullhead City is an exercise in frustration. In addition to hosting a biker rally, the road across the bridge is a major highway between Phoenix and Las Vegas and despite the tens of thousands of bikes, the cars are still in the majority trying to get across. Can you say traffic jam?
In the casino area, biker parking that looked crowded yesterday now hosts elbow to elbow parking and narrow, winding lanes between the rows of parked motorcycles.
Being Saturday, the only day when events are actually planned, it is the day for the poker run to Oatman, AZ; the custom bike show at one of the big hotels; and the Miss Laughlin River Run 2010 competition. Admission to all three is included in your rally registration but few of the attendees bother to register. There's too much partying to do and who needs to spend good beer money on tickets to stuff you don't care about?
Last night's parties were barely winding down as the sun rose this morning, and tonight promises more of the same. Cheap Trick, the rally's headlining band, will play tonight but last night some honest to goodness bluesmen stole the show from all the "tribute" bands aping the likes of Aerosmith and Stevie Ray Vaughn. And it was all free, out under the stars, and the beer coolers were well-stocked.
The party is in Laughlin tonight. Are you?
