IMAX (Tallahassee Mall and Challenger Learning Center)
Never have there been more films to see on the super-big IMAX screen, and Tallahassee has two great locations to soak those choices in: Tallahassee Mall is currently showing Iron Man 2 and will premiere Shrek Forever After in Imax 3D on May 20. The Challenger Learning Center has a wide variety of programming. The new Alice in Wonderland is showing the rest of this month, as are visually stunning IMAX documentaries like The Living Sea, Hubble, and Journey into Amazing Caves.
Tom Brown Park
Tallahassee has won national recognition for its parks system, and Tom Brown Park is a jewel in the crown. Open from sunrise to sunset, Tom Brown Park has -- as any Tallahassee kid will tell you -- the king of all playgrounds. Fantastic walking and biking trails, numerous picnic areas, a dog park, disc golf course and acres and acres of other sports and recreation amenities, Tom Brown Park is a magnet for families.
Zoinks
Ever had one of those rainy days when you felt like you were peeling the kids off the ceiling every 10 minutes? Zoinks Kidstation has been the saving grace of many a mom on a bad weather -- or good weather -- day. Bouncy houses of every description are available for kids ages 1 to 12, as well as an arcade and refreshment stand. The noise levels are deafening during the most crowded times of the week (Saturday and most school holidays) but the opportunity for energy depletion is well worth the hearing loss. There's also an "adult area" with a TV and couches and a dedicated space for toddlers.
Live shows
We may not have Broadway, but at least a few times a year, Broadway makes a stop at the Tallahassee Leon County Civic Center. More impressive to the kids in the family: Dora is coming to town. That's right: On Thursday, July 29, there will be two shows of Storytime Live, featuring Dora, the Backyardigans, the Wonder Pets and Ni Hao, Kai-lan. Tickets go on sale this Friday.
Dinosaurs
Don't miss your chance to see the Mary Brogan Museum's final days of Dinosaurs. Through the end of May, your little ones (and big ones) can get a glimpse of these nine prehistoric pedestrians as robotic technology brings nine different types of dinosaurs to life.
