SAN DIEGO - No trace has been found of two children that were swept away by flood waters when the Tijuana River swelled-over last week. The children, ages 2 and 5, were caught in the flood water south of the border. Sunday, San Diego Fire-Rescue crews and lifeguards joined agents of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection department investigating a possible sighting.
The sighting was reported by migrants located near Border Field State Park who thought they saw a body floating in the water early Sunday, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman Maurice Luque. The younger female child and older male were with their parents and sister inside their family vehicle when it crashed into the water Wednesday, killing their female sibling, age 9. The condition of the missing children's parents was unknown when Luque gave this update on the situation.
The Tijuana River flows to the ocean just north of the border. Last week's multiple storms nearly caused the dam above to crest resulting in significant flooding through the area.
