Hug Your Kid Day

Please mark your calendars for Monday, July 19, 2010 National Hug Your Kids Day.

National Hug your Kids Day was created to remind all parents - moms and dads - to hug their children everyday. It is held annually on the third Monday in July. If you have children within a hug’s reach, hug them! If they’re too far away, give them a call, text, email, snail mail, a Cookie-gram… whatever it takes to make sure on that day, they feel hugged.

Hugs are fast and free. Here is how to give a good hug:

Empty your mind of all of your worries, empty your hands of everything else, reach your arms out wide then bring your child into your body. Squeeze tight, so that when you part you both say: now that’s a hug”. Make sure you give a hug that lasts all day.

Unfortunately, there are no official activities planned in Mesa for National Hug your Kids Day, but there are plenty of activites you can do on your own to celebrate this day:
                 - Draw a pack of “Hug Coupons
                 - Play a Hugging Game (like red rover except with hugs)
                 - Go on a Hug Hunt using Hershey’s kisses
                 - Make “I got hugged” stickers or pendants

The trick to start hugging your kids and your spouse or partner every day is to hug them today. Don’t over-think and under-hug. Don’t tell yourself you’re too tired, or the kids are too busy, or it’s not the right time to hug your loved one. Hugs are like both vitamins and medicine. They can help prevent hurt feelings, and help heal them faster.

This is ridiculous--why should parents need a reminder to hug their kids! stupid.

I appreciate all those parents that hug and kiss their children (young & old) all day and every day. However, I believe that there are some parents out there who may not hug their kids due to whatever reason (i.e., depression, alcoholism, busy work schedule, leave it up to their partners to give the hugs, etc.). So,thank you for the article....another reason to "squeeze" real hard when I "HUG"...
