The Campbell Soup Company, makers of the childhood canned favorite "SpaghettiOs with Meatballs", issued a massive recall of 15,000,000 pounds of product due to under-processing. To date no illnesses have been reported.
According to the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services, the products included in the recall are:
• SpaghettiOs with Meatballs
• SpaghettiOs A to Z with Meatballs
• SpaghettiOs Fun Shapes with Meatballs (Cars)
If you have purchased the recalled product, Kansas City.Com advises consumers to look for the print “EST 4K” at the bottom of the can and a “use by” date between June 2010 and December 2011. The Campbell’s company website says “there is no information indicating that any under-processed product has reached consumers”.
The recall was issued by the USDA according to Kansas City.Com. The issue date was Thursday, June 17, 2010.
Campbell’s has announced an information hotline for questions and concerns. Address your inquiries to the Campbell's Hotline at (866) 495-3774. For inquires about contamination and other safe handling of food, the USDA has created a consumer education tool called AskKaren.gov.
