PBS has a new show starting this fall aimed at young, school-aged (preschool and up) minds. Dinosaur Train is a series that follows a preschool-aged dino named, Buddy who is adopted into the Pteranodon family. Buddy and his siblings want to learn all they can about the dinosaur world and board a train, the Dinosaur Train, conducted by a Troodon who guides them on their dinosaur fact-finding adventures. PBS says the series “embraces and celebrates the fascination that preschoolers have with both dinosaurs and trains while encouraging basic scientific thinking and skills as the audience learns about natural science, natural history and paleontology.”
Paleontologist, Dr. Scott Sampson is to host brief segments between episodes to let viewers discover more about the topics covered in the show. The PBS show website also features games, printables, and a field guide also hosted by Dr. Scott Sampson that provides more information in easy to language for kids.
The show is due to premier on Monday, September 7, 2009 (Labor Day). The PBS website provides a schedule for the station in your area that you can check for times.
