Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, NY is sponsoring a lecture called "What would Montessori Say About the iPad? When Old Theories of Play Meet New Media" by Warren Buckleitner, Ph.D. He seeks to examine how theories of play change with the advent of new technologies, such as the iPad, Wii, and other forms of digital play. He also promises to expose some of the dangers that play off the advantages of such items in the child's play areas at home and in the classroom.

Warren Buckleitner is the founding editor of Children's Technology Review. He is the founder of the Dust or Magic Institute on the Design of Children's Interactive Media. On the New York Times Gadgetwise blog, he writes about children's technology. He is considered to be nationally recognized as an expert on children and technology.

The lecture takes place on Monday, June 7, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.

Register for the lecture.

Though the lecture is free and open to the public, advanced registration is requested. To do so, call the Strong National Museum of Play at 585-263-2700 or email at info@museumofplay.org.

very interesting topic. We are developing a couple of apps for the ipads our preschool has.

I know for sure, Maria would be concerned on a practical level about the "easily broken" challenge that an ipad presents with younger children. We would not be able to follow the child as they hold a $600 piece of unrepairable equipment in their hands.
