The preteen years (9-12) for girls is when they need healthy ways to continue developing their sense of self worth and confidence, and the Girls on the Run (GOTR) program offers just that.  Girls on the Run is a non profit prevention program that gives preteens the unique experience to participate in a 12 week program that uses the power of running to help develop emotional and physical health. The culminating project for these girls is to run an actual 5k race.

There are many ways you can become involved GOTR in and around the Bay Area:

1. You can become a Coach or Assistant Coach. The Coaches are in charge of creating a GOTR group and administer the curricula through a 12 week program. To find out how to coach in the Bay Area click here .

2. You can be a Race Day Running Buddy. If you don't have the time to coach but want to help out, join one of their finale 5Ks. You will be teamed up with a girl to help them through the race. Running Buddies have the opportunity to positively encourage girls running or walking the event, and help celebrate their accomplishment of completing a 5K. To sign up for Sonoma County's GOTR 5k race on April 25th click here. To sign up for the 5k on May 8th in Golden Gate Park click here .

3. You can donate to the Girls on the Run organization. Click here to donate to the Sonoma County GOTR. Click here to donate to GOTR Bay Area.
