The naysayers are wrong. Admitting infidelity for the first time, Tiger Woods is taking a mulligan from golf to work on his marriage. The full statement is below. Until now, the only public communication from Tiger has been through his website, leaving many to wonder if some of these decisions are based on demands made by his wife, Elin Woods. Rita Watson, the national love and marriage examiner, was the first on this site to break this news.

Taking a break may not bode well for the PGA tour, but it is the best decision the golfer can make if his priority is his family and self-respect. Reactions to his hiatus have been mixed. Some argue that professional athletes have no business getting married; infidelity is part of the elite athletes world, so be it, blah, blah, blah. According to the US headline examiner, a major PR expert believes this move is not in his best professional interest. They are wrong.
The problem with applying the ethos of money and the spin machine to such a personal decision is that we can’t have our cake and eat it to with regards to role models. Before Tiger’s accident unraveled a carefully crafted image, he was golf’s golden boy. Now Tiger must choose between his family and his clubs, at least for the time being, to determine who he really is and wants to be. If the answer includes being a husband and father, then there is no other way to salvage a marriage unless a couple is willing to do the hard work of reconciliation. Trust and respect must come before fame and money.
Besides, if Tiger wants to a hero again, he has to start with his wife and family. With all due respect to the sportscasters, the PR machine, and the handlers of the rich and famous – any advice to Tiger to skip the marriage, and head for the course misses the point. I for one am so over the corruption of money and the sporting world, of excusing bad behavior because it's been that way for who knows how long. Who gives a damn about status quo if it perpetuates lies, deception and men behaving badly. No athlete can put his game before his family, and come out on the other side as a mensch.
Modern Love is rooting for Tiger, Elin, their children and marriage. Whether it survives this trauma is up to two people, but at least with the decision to put his values on love, he’s showing that he’s got what it takes to grow up.
