Battle.net serves as a single log-in for all Blizzard games
A few months ago, Blizzard Entertainment rolled out their Battle.net account, which features a way to log in to World of Warcraft and future Blizzard games with a single username and password. In the future, Battle.net accounts will have more features, including what sounds like a global (cross-realm) chat system (something that City of Heroes has been doing for years, and a huge quality-of-life feature). Signing up for and using a Battle.net account was optional, but no more: starting on November 11th, it'll be the only way to log in to World of Warcraft.
Players will need to merge their existing World of Warcraft with a Battle.net account by November 11th to be able to log in to the game; they can do so by visiting the Battle.net website. As a "thank you" for doing this, Blizzard will be giving players a free in-game penguin pet. If you've already done the merge, look for your penguin pet in your mailbox sometime later this week.
