UFC fighter Patrick Barry returned to New Orleans this week; after recovering from surgery on his thumb. Hauling Ron Kruck of HDnet and Inside MMA with him Barry returned to POWER MMA today for an interview session with the New Orleans MMA examiner. Wearing his New Orleans Harley Davidson gear to the gym Barry showed off his tree trunk legs as one of his long-time coaches Myron Gaudet commented, "I am wonderfully happy to see Pat back in town. He's like a little brother to me."
Barry will be holding a seminar at POWER MMA on Saturday December 5th at 12:30 PM. The cost for the seminar is $25 for non-members and $20 for members. POWER MMA is located at 900 Terry Parkway, the phone number is 504-813-0824 or www.mmanola.com for more information.
Asked about the television crew following him around throughout the day Pat said, "we are recording the life of Pat outside of the ring and its going excellently. We went around to where to where I grew up, to where I train when I am in town, and we are going to have a family dinner."
Barry has spent the week doing a modest victory lap in New Orleans attending the Saints game for the first time since he was a kid with POWER MMA co-owner Carlos Mena. Ron Kruck seemed to really enjoy his time with Barry and declared the New Orleans MMA superstar, "made for reality TV."
Barry spent part of the afternoon showing Marco Macera, one of Louisiana's premiere black belts some new skills that he learned including a cow catcher. Despite the cast on his arm Barry did some drills and workouts with professional and amateur fighters at POWER MMA. Barry then went in the ring and displayed his power while coach William Knorr held kick shields as he blasted him with his signature kicks. The excitement around Barry coming to town could be felt as a buzz throughout the gym.
Dedra Louis, a new POWER MMA student said of the training on Thursday night, "I thought it was great. You would think that someone like Pat would be intimidating. Even though I didn't know what I was doing he was like do this and do that and it worked."
