For someone that only has a .500 record in the UFC, Clay Guida has quite a following. The Johnsburg, Illinois native will get his next chance to entertain fans at UFC on Versus 1 airing March 21st. That is, only if the main card fights run short and the network needs some filler.
“The Carpenter” was originally scheduled to fight Sean Sherk on the televised portion of the event. However, that has now changed since “The Muscle Shark” was forced to withdraw from the match-up because of injury. Guida will now be relegated to under-card status when he faces Shannon Gugerty.
More importantly than when or who he fights is that Harper College product gets back to his winning ways. Guida has been defeated in his last two fights, although some might argue that his dynamic personality and intense style almost make the final outcome insignificant. Win or lose, the fans always seem to want more of the wild haired caveman that never says die.
Gugerty, meanwhile, will carry a 12-4 professional record into the bout (2-2 in the UFC) in Colorado. The San Diego native is a self-described grappler that will look to find submissions if he can get Guida to the ground.
For DirecTV customers, our pain continues. Now we are not only missing WEC events, but the UFC has decided to rub sand in our cuts as well.
