Hoarder found dead buried under own clutter

Billie Jean James, of Las Vegas, who had been missing since April, was found by her husband when he saw her feet sticking out from beneath a pile of clutter.

According to KTNV news in Las Vegas, police searched the couples home four months ago with search and rescue dogs when her husband reported her missing. The dogs were brought in because the home was packed full of trash and debris.  The couple had accumulated piles of trash, food, clothing and other stuff in their home over the years.  Bill said he left her tending the garden when he went to take a nap.  When he woke up later, she was missing.

The dogs did not find Billie in the home, so they widen the search to outside the home.  Billie was never found and her disappearance remained a mystery.

Over the next 4 months, her husband, Bill James, continued to live in the home and got around the house by using small pathways to get from one room to another. Then last week, the mystery of Billie's disappearance was solved when Bill found Billie's feet sticking out from a pile of clutter.

"For our dogs to go through that house and not find something should be indicative of the tremendous environmental challenges they faced," Bill Cassell of the Las Vegas police department told the Associated Press.

Friends of the family said that Billie loved to purchase items at thrift stores, but didn't like people to come to her home because of the clutter.

Authorities said that Billie had suffered a stroke months before and Bill believes that she may have suffered another one when she disappeared.

It will be several weeks before the coroner will know the cause of death.
