The Northern League is an independent professional minor league baseball league and they are one of the most stable, financially secure and successful in North America. In the Chicago area, they are definitely winning when it comes to the most teams. In fact, they are so successful in the Chicago are that they have expanded, for 2010, by two teams in this area alone. They have added the Rockford Riverhawks and the expansion Lake County Fielders for the new season and expanded the league schedule to 100 games.
The Lake County Fielders have created a bit of a buzz in the area. Not only are they an expansion of the baseball teams in the area, but they are bringing that baseball to a current sports “no-mans land.” They are located near the Wisconsin border and will provide professional sports to the North Shore of the city. The second reason is that one of the owners is the film star Kevin Costner.
The Fielders have now announced that they have finalized the design of their new stadium, to be located in Zion, Illinois. The new stadium design will be unveiled at the upcoming Fan Fast which will run from February 21 – 23.
According to a team press release, the new design will incorporate all of the design features featured in initial designs including suites, a banquet facility, party decks and a concert stage. However, the new design is a single-story structure designed to eventually expand vertically sometime in the future.

Northern League does not seem to be stable at all. Last year it was a scant 6-team league. The season starts in about 3 months and one of the new teams, Zion, hasn't even started construction on the stadium you mention. In fact, according to the owners own comments late last month, EPA permits have not been issued and sufficient funding is not in place. The site is adjacent to an active dump, so the EPA issue is a serious one. Fielders owners
