Minnesota continues the second half of the season as we go inside the numbers

The Minnesota Golden Gophers and Colorado College Tigers split a series last weekend which not only propelled Minnesota out and back in to the tournament picture, but it also kept up with the current Minnesota theme of not being able to play on Friday. The goofy Gophers get set to play a home and home series with St. Cloud on Friday and Saturday, so let’s go inside the numbers.

6: All but six skating Gophers have a point versus St Cloud State in their careers. Nick Larson, Jake Parenteau, Joe Miller, Seth Ambroz, Sam Warning, and Jared Larson all do not.

1.46: In four career games versus St Cloud State, Minnesota’s Kent Patterson has a 1.46 goals against average. He’s 2-1-0 with a .946 save percentage.

20: Nick Bjugstad’s twenty goals this season in twenty-five games puts him second in the nation. Colgate’s Austin Smith has twenty-four goals in twenty-four games.

17: Minnesota is tied for the national lead in wins with seventeen. Minnesota-Duluth also has seventeen wins, with three teams owning fifteen wins on the season.

5: In the last five games played at Mariucci Arena, Minnesota is 3-2-0, with two of those games being shutouts that Minnesota won 5-0 and 3-0.

6: RIT’s Shane Madodora and Minnesota’s Kent Patterson lead the nation in shutouts with six. Andy Iles (Cornell) and Paul Karpowich of Clarkson come next with five.

11/19/2011: That date was the last time a Minnesota hat trick was scored. Nick Bjugstad did it versus St. Cloud State in the 5-0 Gopher victory.

3/17/2006: Ryan Potulny scored four goals that day versus St Cloud State in an 8-7 loss. That was the last time a Minnesota player had a four goal game.

30: Minnesota has taken thirty or more shots in nine of its last ten games, getting a twenty six shot effort in January 13th’s game at North Dakota.

10: Minnesota’s .225 power play percentage ranks them tenth in the nation, behind such teams as Harvard, Maine, Connecticut, Union, Boston University, Mercyhurst, Yale, Denver, and Colorado College.
