Makeup 101: High definition makeup and skin care

Women’s need to look younger has focused skin care and makeup brands to formulate high-definition cosmetics. Several beauty brands have added high-def camera-ready products touting the ability for skin to appear 10 years younger.

"Beauty is easy when using the right skin care or makeup products as they were designed to be used by the manufacturer.” says Rae Kat Switzer cosmetic chemist and owner of the Raesin Images Cosmetics Colour ID Mineral Makeup Brand. "We have found that once women follow any skin care product directions for the minimal requirement of 3-6 months as instructions usually state, their skin shows youthful change.”

Ms. Switzer goes on to say that, "Most women need to see instant results from skin care and the fact is skin care products do not work that fast. The main quick-effect appearance of skin care products is through silicone based ingredients. Some cosmetic products like No7 Protect and Perfect Beauty Serum (featured on the CBS Early Show) have high dosages of silicone type ingredients that allow the product to feel and look nice instantly when applied. Makeup primer and serum products like the No7 tend to ball up on skin if user applies foundation or rubs skin. Several skin care brands have 2-4 dimethicone and silicone mixtures, and these products may not be worth wasting money on since ‘-cones’ offer no long-term benefits."

A few high-definition perfect skin secret weapons are:

1. A hydrating cream or primer, preferably one that doesn't contain the -cone ingredients repeatedly. Primers are meant to be worn underneath foundations to defuse lines and wrinkles while giving skin a soft glow. Award winning Resurface X-treme from Colour ID Minerals Makeup is a powder primer and works perfectly over and/or under makeup. A makeup junkie favorite is Smashbox Primer which has won several beauty awards though does contain high levels of -cone ingredients.

2. When applying a foundation makeup over a primer, remember again to stay away from excessive amounts of -cones. Reading all cosmetic ingredient labels is wise. Stick with a cream or liquid foundation not meant for oily skin so that it keeps its creamy youthful glow.

3. A light beige or cream eye shadow can be used to brighten the eye lid area. Use a touch of gel eye liner around the outer edges of eye area for an eye opening effect. The same goes for applying mascara and cream gele eye liner, only use at outer 2/3 of eyes or eyes can look small and droopy. In their early years, women tended to apply too much mascara and eye liner, but as we age too much makeup adds years to the face, and who wants to look older than they are? Not many of us.

I was just wondering what you thought of the new airbrush foundation systems and if they are worth purchasing. Great to see you writing again.

Loved the article and just wanted to say that I use the Colour ID Resurfacing Veil on my shoots as nothing makes a face matte faster or lasts longer. I tend to stay clear of any makeup brand that has too many silicone based products, they're great don't get me wrong, I love them in hair products as they are the best straightening agents, but they make many skin types break out in cystic acne what celebrity would want that? None!
