Ideas for self-care for mind and spirit

When life feels busy, sometimes, it can feel difficult to feel connected to one’s mind and spirit. There are energies in the collective, including in metro Detroit that can feel uncertain or chaotic at times. One might wonder how to stay balanced or in harmony with one’s life with so many energies to manage.

Self-care is so important. Many times, we do it for our body, but not for our mind and spirit. All parts of our being need self-care. Here are some ideas to get one started on the journey of self-care for mind and spirit:

1. Meditate. Find a method that works and do it regularly. Meditation has many benefits such as peacefulness and relaxation. It’s the ultimate method for self-care of one’s mind and spirit. 2. Just be. Relax. Do nothing. Just allow the clouds to pass by and enjoy life. Sit down or lay down. Rest. Allow one’s self to daydream. Watch the thoughts and feelings that arise. Come back to daily life feeling more rested and refreshed, ready to work or fulfill other duties.

3. Journal. Write down what is on one’s mind. Write down ideas or dreams. Write down stories. Let out emotions or feelings that have been bottled up for some time. Here is an article on journaling as a healing method: www.examiner.com/examiner/x-11878-Detroit-Mind--Spirit-Examiner~y2009m6d25-Journaling-as-a-healing-method

4. Have some fun. Having fun raises one’s spiritual vibration. Laughter increases endorphins and has many other scientifically proven benefits. Here is an article on the healing benefits of laughter:  helpguide.org/life/humor_laughter_health.htm

5. Give back. Do some volunteer work. Help those who are less fortunate. There are many organizations that need volunteers, so they are not hard to find. Giving back helps one to feel grateful for his or her own life and to feel good helping others by making a difference in the world.

6. Receive healing work. Get a massage or other bodywork. Get a reiki session. Allow one’s self to receive. By allowing this receiving, it helps one to open up to abundance. One is able to be more present in one’s life to be of service to others.

7. Read a good book. There are many books on healing and growth. Check out your favorite local bookstore or on-line on sites like Hay House:  www.hayhouse.com
