PEORIA, IL - The Milwaukee Admirals dropped their second straight game Saturday night, losing to the Peoria Rivermen 5-4. The winning goal was scored on the powerplay by Rivermen defenseman Brendan Bell with just :16 seconds to go in regulation, moving the Peoria Rivermen back into second place in the West Division.
Peoria struck first just :21 seconds into the contest with a backhanded shot from forward Barry Tallackson. Peoria would light lamp one more time at the end of the period with a powerplay goal from forward Brett Sonne, which was answered by Milwaukee :25 seconds later with a goal from Milwaukee's Cal O'Reilly. O'Reilly's goal was unassisted and marked his 3rd goal of the season.
The Rivermen regained their 2-goal lead in the beginning of the second period with a goal from forward Yan Stastny, but Milwaukee was able to tie the game with goals from Hugh Jessiman and Mark Matheson midway through the second period. At 18:04, Peoria's Chris Porter caught a rebound, and after several failed attempts, was able to put the puck past Milwaukee netminder Mark Dekanich, giving the Rivermen a 4-3 lead.
Milwaukee's Teemu Laakso tallied his first goal of the season midway through the third period, evening the score 4-4. Cal O'Reilly set the stage for the goal, feeding Laakso the puck from behind the Peoria net. O'Reilly's assist gave him a 3-point night, scoring a goal and assisting on 2.
It looked like the contest was headed into overtime until Milwaukee's Ryan Jones was called for slashing with :26 left in regulation. The slashing minor put Peoria on the power-play, and it took the Rivermen only :10 seconds to put the winning tally on the board. Peoria defenseman Brendan Bell sent a one-timer past Milwaukee's Mark Dekanich, handing Milwaukee their second loss in 2 nights.
