'Obama's Private Army' in the health care bill rumors continue

A hot button issue right now on the military rumors front, especially in the blogosphere and via email.  I wrote an article for MOAA this week debunking the rumor.  The misinformation being spread around hits all the usual notes.  Government takeover, Obama having a secret agenda, the use of a real legislative decision but interpreted to match people's own pre-conceived notions, and finishing with the usual references to Hitler.

A portion of the health care reform bill created a reserve force for the USPHS, a member of the uniformed services and under command of the Department of Defense.  Just like most of the other 7 services that make up the uniformed services, the reserve component will back fill positions and duties that the active duty USPHS can't attend to due to deployment to war zones.  It is something that military advocates of The Military Coalition have supported doing for years.  The USPHS is mostly comprised of doctors, nurses and other medical personnel and the new reserve corps will be under the same scrutiny as the other reserve corps.

There is nothing in the legislation that indicates anything that could possibly lead to the end-of-the-republic type of stuff that is being conjectured in these emails and posts.

For more information, see my post at MOAA or check out a more thorough review at FactCheck.org.

I'm guessing that comment was directed at the ones perpetrating this BS. If so, I approve. This is possibly the dumbest thing the conservatives have done since the Interpol lies. How many times do they get to lie and be exposed before people just stop listening to them and think for themselves?
