Media: Thanks(only if you're)giving

So Thanksgiving is once again upon us. Everyone gathers around their families and friends for a nice meal of turkey cranberry sauce, etc(if your vegan just substitute the word turkey for whatever you picked up at Whole Foods for the occasion). Thanksgiving is also a time for us to make statements of what we are thankful for. However, the media wants you to be ashamed of those very things that you give thanks for.

Okay, so your sitting down either pre, post, or during your feast and put the football game on. Thanksgiving tradition, right? All the guys get to bond while they one by one fall asleep on the couch, right? Of course, but there is a more subliminal message occurring on the TV screen.

Thanksgiving, more than any other day, you see countless commercials, ads, PSA's, etc. about the "needy". Now, let me say that charities are indeed wonderful programs and people who donate to them are indeed noble. There are people out there who are less fortunate, and as long as that continues there will be people wanting to help them. All good things, but do we really need to hear about it during a holiday? Every other 364 days out of the year we hear about the needy, the homeless, the impoverished. So why the full-court press during Thanksgiving.

The media hates inequalities. In any form. Unjust or just. And while you are sitting in your warm house wathcing your plasma screen tv after eating more food than you thought was humanly possible, they try to guilt you. While you are enjoying a fine holiday (which is secular, so you'd think the liberal media wouldn't mind it...wait, wait, right the Pilgrims brought malaria and stole the Natives land...never mind) you get bombarded with stories about some homeless man spending Thanksgiving curled up in a ball at a subway station. "See?!?!", the media tells you sub-consciously, "These people are so much worse off than you..why are you enjoying yourself..WHY?!?!" They try to guilt you, ruin your holiday, and don't think for a minute I'm being sarcastic.

So as you enjoy Thanksgiving, remember that you are a good, benevolent person even though you don't sob in agony over the plight of vagrancy. And if even with my advice you can't stand watching these specials without feeling a tug on yoru heartstrings, go help clean the table, isn't lettign the women do all the work too chauvanistic?
