Unemployment rates go up : unemployed celebrate labor day (SLIDESHOW)

Obama Labor Day Unemployment
Unemployment rises - Happy Labor Day

The Barack Obama administration stimulus package saved us from a depression and stopped a recession . The one question people are asking , where are the jobs? With unemployment rates at 9.7% , a 20 year high , and close to seven people applying for every job , the numbers are stacked against many obtaining work . Many of the unemployed  have given up after searching for months  . For many  the only immediate benefit from  the stimulus package has been extended unemployment benefits . If you are one of the lucky recipients of this bit of change , nourish it and try and make it grow , if you go under there are not many safety nets to save you from financial ruin . State unemployment offices are processing unemployment insurance claims at a record pace .

The Washington Post asked When will the stimulus kick in? unfortunately the jobs and economic recovery benefits that are built into the stimulus package will not kick in until next year so we have a ways to go before we are out of the woods .

The good news is the stimulus saved the U.S. from a depression , that's  little comfort to the unemployed . The truth of the matter is the stimulus is designed to help businesses remain solvent first

and to help the labor market recover secondly , so we are looking at a slow process that will take months to fully kick in .

Congratulations if you are one of the lucky few who used the recession as an opportunity to start your own business or become more financially independent , it's great to be your own boss , even if the pay is not that great sometimes .  HAPPY LABOR DAY!

Labor Day Has A New Meaning:  National Event Helps Other Job Seekers Find Jobs.
San Jose, Calif., August 20, 2009 - National community grass-roots organization, PinkSlipMixers.com, will organize a simultaneous multi-city, bi-coastal, job networking event on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, that will utilize various online social media tools for the purpose of banding together thousands of job seekers to discover and uncover jobs.  The event will connect each city by live-video streaming on PinkSlipMixers.com (powered by Groupsite.com) as well as real-time micro-blogging on Twitter and LinkedIn. Inspired by the “Tax Tea Party” of April 2009, the PinkslipMixers.com's world's largest job search networking event will be non-partisan.  The goal of the one day event is to encourage job seekers to find job opportunities and show America that laid-off professionals are still valuable employees.

The current recession and continual corporate layoffs are redefining the meaning of Labor Day.  Traditionally, Labor Day recognized and rewarded Americans with a day of rest for achievements in the labor force.  Now, with so many Americans out of work, the efforts will be redirected toward job seekers and laid-off professionals because in the job search process there is no day off.

Where and When
Participating venues will be located in San Jose CA, Pasadena CA, San Diego CA, Newport Beach, CA, Las Vegas NV, and Jacksonville FL.  The events will begin 2:00 PM PST and end 5:00 PM PST on September 7, 2009.  PinkSlipMixers.com anticipates this will be the world's largest job search networking event.  The national events are free to job seekers.

With millions of Americans unemployed, we still import thousands of foreign workers every month. Mr Obama please help Americans get jobs first. We are the citizens of this great country and show be given first dibs on jobs.

I just want to add the true unemployment rate is 16.3 percent, since 40 percent of the work force are independents, contractors and self employed. A lot of them don't have unemployment benefits.
