What started as a beautiful function to celebrate the new found relationship between the United states and India has morphed into a media spectacle. The State Dinner given by Michelle Obama and President Barack Obama honoring Prime Minister Singh of India initially was thought of as a complete success, until talk of uninvited guests crashing the party began to circulate. As news hit the internet finger pointing began as to who was to blame, no one wanted to be left holding the bag on such an embarrassing situation. In the end blame was placed at the feet of the Secret Service, after all the White House and Secret Service agreed on this right. Well that probably would have been the end of it in the old days, information dissemination was so much slower.
Now, in the age of new media, rumors and whispers can spread like wild fire, and how things are handled in the White House are a whole lot different ball game then they used to be. While the Obama administration rode to the White House thanks to the internet it has become a two edged sword as frequently they have not been able to keep up with the spread of information in time to perform adequate damage control.
Now the media fall out from the State Dinner has managed to wind its way all the way to the White House Social Secretary. White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers has been "invited" to appear before the Homeland Security Committee on Thursday, this was requested by the ranking Republican on the committee U.S. Rep. Peter King. Will Desiree Rogers, rumored to be a distant relative of Marie Laveau (the legendary New Orleans voodoo queen) cast a spell on the Committee for Homeland Security on Thursday ? She probably will, much like the way she has cast a spell on many in the Obama administration. When Desiree Rogers became Social Secretary she said the White House planned to open the doors of the White House to all Americans, they have done just that, it may be time to scale that back a little bit, we get the picture.
Michaele Salahi and Tareq Salahi pulled off the seemingly impossible a few days ago, they crashed a White House State Dinner with no invitation and lived to tell about it. So what did they get out of it ?, so far the state dinner crashers have gotten a wikipedia page, an interview on the NBC Today show, and possibly a six figure deal on a reality show(long shot).
It's the hope of many that after this whole Gatecrash thing is over with some good will come out of it, I think there is a very good chance of that happening. The White House has already announced that the Social Secretary's office will work more closely with the Secret Service the next time there is a major event. While that is good enough for push overs like me, other political pundits have taken the opportunity to go on the attack, Michelle Malkin for instance wrote a piece called, "Crashergate, Desiree Rogers, and the Chicago Way: Land of no consequences; Update: House Panel to Hold Hearing": A bit over the top in my estimation but Malkin is known for that and she was definitely not waiting at the mail box for her State Dinner invitation last week.
Update: White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs says Desiree Rogers will not testify in front of Congress at Committee for Homeland Security

Ms. Rogers needs to be fired or made to issue an apology ot the American people and the people of India. She is too much a diva and a wannabe star. She needs to realize that this is a JOB not an evening soiree. Perhaps if she did her job instead of attending fashion shows, posing for photos, and granting interviews, none of this would have happened. frankly, I do not care who is the social secretary only that the job is done. Call Hargraves back and let us see some competence for a change.
She doesn't understand her role. Behind he scene, not in it.
When she was appointed. My flags went way up. And she from what i remember was just a fine babe who like to show up to all the hot concerts. She was never invovled in Chitown politics, but was just a pretty face. She was appointed as a friend of the Obama family at the expense of all americans. It shows you that this whole Obama thing is for his own personal status and Ivy league Nigro ego trippin to its fullest.
