North Korea is well known for starting off the new year with an editorial they publish on the front page of popular state run newspapers. This year they sent a message to Barack Obama and the Obama administration. They want a new deal with the United States in the interest of peace. In the Bush era the North Koreans were on the axis of evil list and now it appears they would like to turn over a new leaf. The State Department answered with a message of their own, the U.S. wants North Korea to enter six-party talks on their nuclear program. China, South Korea, North Korea , the United States of America, the Russian Federation, and Japan are part of the group that would negotiate a resolution. North Korea pulled out of the talks last April following widespread condemnation of a long-range missile launch.
"The main task for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in Asia is an end to the hostile relationship between North Korea and the USA," said a state North Korea newspaper speaking of the news release . North Korea stated in the editorial they want to establish a long lasting peace system in the Korean region and want to narrow the differences they have with the U.S.
U.S. special envoy to North Korea Stephen Bosworth recently went to North Korea to try and resume talks, may be it worked, the North Koreans are shrewd negotiators.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said she is hopeful North Korea will continue six-party talks on their nuclear program.
