I know this is old news and I apologize for not writing about this earlier......thought it was much ado about nothing but I recently watched the video on youtube for the first time and thought you might like to see this, it happens 34 seconds into the video when first lady Michelle Obama attempts to put her left arm on the Queen's shoulder and the Queen is immediately taken aback, the Queen shrugs it off and almost gives Michelle an elbow check with her right arm.
I know Michelle Obama did not mean any harm but this was the funniest thing I've seen in awhile, I should have checked it out sooner.
I loved the way the Queen responded though, I thought she might pull an Esther like on Fred Sanford and start swinging her purse for a minute, she gave Michelle Obama a stern warning with her facial expression, Michelle Obama got the message immediately.
Michelle Obama kept it real on this one.LOL! Oh my goodness.......never a dull moment with the First lady....I love it.......she must be fun to hang out with....I bet her and President Barack have a video of this and they play it from time to time at home and just laugh all night. In all fairness, reports claim that the Queen put her arm around the First ladies waist first.
Another defense for Michelle Obama, of course, is that she is not a subject of the Queen. (Australians, despite referendums attempting to turn themselves into a republic, still recognize the Queen as their head of state.) The First Lady of the United States is not required to curtsey before her or any other crowned head. In any case, the touch lasted just a second or two, and the Queen did not seem particularly perturbed -- though she appeared slightly surprised as she drew away.
You think this is why we did not get the Chicago 2016 Olympic bid, naw couldn't be, may be...you never know.

For one time and probably one time only I'll come to Michelle's defense on this one. I don't agree with that whole "royalty" bulls**t over in England anyhow, the idea to put people on a pedestal just because of a bloodline is pathetic, just like some Americans have done with those slimy Kennedys. I save my humility for God and not a man made of flesh and bone like me.
God(dess) anoited Kings and Queens. They were chosen, blessed,and great human beings once upon a time. Particularly IN the Bible-in fact in all religious/spiritual bacvkgrounds.
With that said, yes, they all are a bunch a hooey now.
But in this video it appears that Elizabeth's one and only daughter,Anne, her reaction was expecting her mother to get real! She kind of laughed, like 'Oh, well! She almost did it!'
I personally think they were all proud and relieved of/for The Cousins across the Pond.
I love the Obamas! Michelle is my hero!
Bottom line...She should not have touched the Queen. Protocol is protocol.
