I'm glad both the President and First Lady are going. I'm sure they will be of great comfort to the families and the survivors.
Too bad Obama did not visit right away, as any decent president would do. Notice how George and Barbara Bush quietly slipped into the base to comfort the whole base. I'm sure they wouldn't have made the trip if Obama had made the effort. How embarrassing. Regardless of how you feel about one political party or the other, at least George Bush was pro-military families. I am ashamed of Obama's mishandling of the whole ordeal.
Takes time to arrange a flattering photo shoot. His timing is right in line with well thought out press and photo opportunities. He treated it like an after thought when it happened, didn't have time from pushing his socialist health bill that will cripple this country, nor did he have time to celebrate the Berlin Wall (not about him so why go right?) So his visit to Ft. Hood is what it is, a photo shoot from a President that has spent more time defending the murderer as a Muslim than he has addressing the families of the murdered. I would expect nothing less from Obama. I'm sure they will look nice and have practiced sad expressions. You go BO.
Maggie and Erin- You both are So right. We are living in a sad time right now. When we need a strong stand-up president the most, we have a 'rock/movie star' instead who is concerned first and foremost with his image. We unfortunately are currently undergoing the "change" he relentlessly promised us. He chanted "change" his entire campaign but never actually spelled out what "change" meant. So now we are having to learn the hard way- what he means by change is the downfall of America.
Michelle Obama is a wonderful and very positive role model for both women and children. I look up to her and was happy to learn of her appearance on Sesame Street, it truly was a great thing for our children to see. Being a former government employee (in the Army and stationed at Ft. Hood) I understand that making things happen is much easier said than done and the great tasks accomplished can not be done alone. Not even the president can just do what he wants to do, it is imparitive that we all keep that in mind.
They had to prepare security for the president's arrival. The president, any president, does not just drop in. Sad, that some of you take this opportunity to complain about politics.
