I'm looking at First Lady Michelle Obama's schedule and it strikes me as odd. Is the Obama administration giving President Sarkozy and his wife, French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy the cold shoulder? Or are they just toning things down a bit? The French couple has been seen gallivanting around Washington D.C. by themselves for most of their trip. Carla Bruni-Sarkozy visited a KIPP school (Knowledge is Power Program) today.
I'm sure its nothing serious but this might have to do with the new confidence the passing of health care has pumped into Barack Obama.
He's got some of his political clout back domestically with the passage of health care and he has been quick to use it. First it was Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu who felt the administration's new found swagger.
Now it looks like the French are getting their comeuppance for daring to doubt the strength of the Obama game plan. The French leader is only here for two days.
While this is part of it. I don't think it tells the full story. Obama may get along with Sarkozy but their messages are not the same. When they interact too much in the public eye it does not always turn out so well for the Obama's. Nicolas Sarkozy is on his third wife and Bruni use to date Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton.
I think as a friendly gesture the Obama's have decided to let the Sarkozy's enjoy the all powerful American news cycle. The French conservative leader needs the bump back home.
Looks like Obama and Sarkozy are doing some media swinging. You borrow my media entourage and then when I come to France return the favor. Only in the 21st century. That's smart of President Obama. Judging from President Sarkozy's speech yesterday at Columbia. Obama just might need his buddy to go all out to increase European pressure for American financial reform.
Carla Bruni and Michelle Obama probably will not have that fashion face off this time around.
