I pledge Obama video is fast becoming one of the most talked about subjects in political circles . The video is being shown in some schools and right wingers feel it may be used during Obama speech to students and Obama address to school children . The right wing has grabbed this video featuring celebrities like Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher and used it as evidence of Obama's socialist agenda . Democrats say it's harmless and only served to promote unity and social responsibility .
I felt the video was done with no ulterior motives and the socialist spin put on by right wing conservatives is a little over the top . The videos are cool and kids love them , so what's the big deal ?

The position of anyone SERVING in government in a free society is to be a "PUBLIC SERVANT" not the other way around. Didn't President Lincoln say it so succinctly. Our government is supposed to be "By the People, For the People"...? I will never indenture myself as the servant of anyone. Not Barack, or any other American President. This is not about bottled water or driving less, it is about freedom from tyranny. Every tyrant in history has asked, or more often required, the people to stop serving the nation or the individual and to pledge loyalty and serve the tyrant.

The big deal is that we are watching along, enjoying these emotional hits from people whose faces we associate with delight or nobility - from the films, etc they have appeared in. We are agreeing with the homey and inspiring sound bytes. Some are truly wonderful "call myself and American, not an African-American" ... "change mySELF before I demand change in others". We're rolling along, the bandwagon of agreement and solidarity is picking up speed, and then it all gets funnelled into "serve President Obama". If I pull back & object, then I am objecting to all that good stuff, too !
Plus, in America we do not serve the President, he serves US. He stands ALONGSIDE US, looking up at the ideals in the Constitution. "Serve our country"- yes. Help him to serve our country, fine. "Serve the Constitution"- good. "Serve the President"- no. We are citizens, not subjects.

I now why Glenn Beck has been ranting and raving the last few months. It seems like what he (Beck) is talking about is happening to America and America is not waking up and smelling the coffee.
