In a statement made today by Barack Obama after the recent terrorist attacks by the 23 year old Nigerian Abdulmutallab aboard Northwest flight 253, the President finished with strong words for the Islamic Republic of Iran. President Obama condemned the violent suppression and detention of what he phrased as "innocent Iranian citizens" by the Iranian government. Barack Obama reiterated that for the past few months Iranian citizens have been met with brutality when trying to exercise their universal rights.
The reformist leader who many felt would bring Iran closer to the U.S. Mir Hossein Mousavi, lost his nephew Seyd Ali Mousavi in the violence. Family and supporters want the body returned. The Iranian government is holding the body until civil unrest dies down. Opposition supporters claim Seyd Ali Mousavi was murdered. The Iranian government denies this. A government-aligned news agency, Fars News, said that the incident was “peculiar” and implied that the murder could have been carried out by foreign intelligence operation aimed at sowing internal discord.
None of this sounds good for diplomatic relations between Iran and the United States . For the historians among us it is a sign that the Obama administration means business and Iran's leadership might not be able to drop the hard line approach..
For those that can remember it appears that the Barack Obama administration is starting to go with a mash up of the Bush family's Iraq play book. Many of the statements and press conferences Obama has made in recent months is not so much directed at Iran but the American people.
Is Barack Obama starting to sell a U.S.-Iran war to the American people. It looks like he is laying the foundations in case it comes to that. George H.W. Bush used similar tactics with Iraq. George H.W. Bush announced to the Iraq people to rise up and take control of the situation after the U.S. ejected Saddam out of Kuwait. The Kurds and Shiites felt the U.S. had their back, boy were they wrong. Saddam slaughtered thousands after the George H.W. Bush decided not to invade Iraq.
This scenario is a little different but it seems that Iran is determined to "feel out" Barack Obama's foreign policy objectives. Since the Obama administration announced plans to pull out of Iraq, Iran has become more emboldened. The United States helped replace the leadership of Iraq with a Shiite coalition in part to appease Iran but it seems like that is backfiring.
Barack Obama still has the upper hand in terms of political leverage. The Iranian reformist and opposition have the most to lose if the U.S. goes to war with Iran. They witnessed how much destruction and suffering the Iraq people went through. Many do not want the same thing to happen in Iran. One thing that the Islamic republic of Iran remembers from the U.S-Iraq war is that the U.S. has a brutal air and ground game. The war would have many detractors. China, Russia, and India supported the recent Iranian Presidential elections. It appears vestiges of the Mongol Empire are strong in Asia.
Barack Obama ended his press conference with these words, " We call for the immediate release of all who have been unjustly detained within Iran. We will continue to bear witness to the extraordinary events that are taking place there. And I'm confident that history will be on the side of those who seek justice. "
How much the reformists want "change" remains to be seen.

Iran is an independent country that put her finger in the nose of western Imperialo-Zionism order. Mr. Obama does not care about democracy, if he does; he should critics his criminal Sheikhdom and Kingdom friends in Middle East. Iranian issue is just an internal problem. I am sure Iranians wisely will solve it very soon. But I think Mr Obama should, instead of fooling his own people and rest of the word, stop killing innocent women and children of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq and recently Yemen. And also should stop supporting his real boss criminal Zionist regime. Shame on Obama. He has embarrassed humanity. The world will find his criminal mind very soon.
Iranians seeking to change the regime and left Islam aside and form a secular government. Reform is not the objective of Iranians but it is the wishes of the west for obvious economic interest. West never ever learn the change of regime will solve all pending tension.iran never ever to give up her ambition to e the leader of the region as well as the world Muslims leaders.
Mir Hossein Mousavi is not a reformer. He is not a friend of the US. He is a terrorist. Mousavi had a hand in planning several attacks against American targets, including the bombing in Lebanon 25 years ago that killed 241 US Marines.
President Obama, stay out of this one! We have no true friends in Iran.
