In a list compiled by CNN's Jay Kernis, Barack Obama and Michelle Obama took the top two spots for most intriguing people of the year. The editor does a weekly list that contains popular personalities for the week that have become news for one reason or another. This is the first most intriguing list of the year that the editor has done for his current company. Rounding out the top 10 spots in order were, Sonia Sotomayor, Edward Kennedy, Sarah Palin, Michael Jackson, Tiger Woods, Henry Louis Gates Jr, Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, and who can forget Susan Boyle.
Interestingly enough the Michelle Obama Examiner did stories on all but two of the people on the list. The last two, somehow Susan Boyle escaped. The following is a little background on the top 10.
- Barack Obama-captured the whole world's imagination. That's pretty powerful stuff. He also happened to be the first African American President, in fairness to Obama it would take a rare soul irrespective of race to do what he has done and have the courage to continue on.
- Michelle Obama-the First Lady has stepped right up to the plate, never flinching, using her vast power and influence very well so far
- Sonia Sotomayor-who will ever forget the first Hispanic justice with parents from Puerto Rico who grew up in public housing in bronx.
- Edward Kennedy-brother of President Kennedy and Sen. Robert F. Kennedy who passed away
- Sarah Palin-the great hope of the right. Palin made head lines as John McCain's running mate. She has become a bigger name since the loss in the elections. Her book has done well and she even resigned as Governor of Alaska.
- Michael Jackson-who can forget the king of pop who left millions crying in remembrance of the greatest entertainer ever, he battled with numerous allegations before his death
- Tiger Woods-what can you say, this ones not over yet
- Henry Louis Gates Jr-can anyone forget the Harvard professor and the beer summit with Sgt. James Crowley , he became embroiled in a do you know who I am? moment.
- Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger-On January 15, the airline captain, along with co-pilot Jeff Skiles, guided the stricken U.S. Airways Flight 1549 into the Hudson River. It was pure genius.
- Susan Boyle-captured the imagination of thousands with "I Dreamed A Dream" from the musical "Les Miserables" on American Idol. Youtube video might be the most viewed ever.
