Abdulmutallab the Nigerian terrorist who planned to carry out a terrorist attack on flight 253 headed for Detroit has a lawyer representing him now. It is Miriam Siefer from the public defenders office. Her first order of business in defending her client is to shut Abdulmutallab up. The 23 year old Nigerian has been busy giving as much information as possible since being arrested which has given Federal authorities a lot of useful intelligence information. Siefer has advised her client to shut his trap for now until she can get a better feel for the direction of the United States case against him.
She is smart in doing this, any valuable information that Abdulmutallab may still have could possibly result in some type of deal or it could stop him from incriminating himself any further. Sounds a little starnge but that's the law.
In other news Barack Obama says that after the full investigation is over those responsible for the mistakes in intelligence gathering will be held accountable. Whether that means someone getting fired is yet to be determined. Secretary Napolitano is busy coordinating efforts with international airports to make sure they have safe guards in place for passengers headed to the United States. It will take an international effort to make sure safety procedures meet standards put in place.
The President looks forward to working with Congress after all findings by the different departments have been turned in and they have had a meeting in the situation room next week. He would like Congress to work expeditiously in getting his choice for TSA chief in place. The President said that the failure to share intelligence will not be tolerated and stressed after the review accountability procedures will be implemented.
The United States is also doing covert military operations in Yemen. It is not being made public to minimize "blowback".
