Former Miami baseball outfielder Adam Eaton was named the Pioneer League's Player of the Week on Wednesday, August 4. During the week ending August 1, Eaton batted .500 (8-for-16), collecting a double, a triple, and two home runs. He drove in four RBIs, scored seven runs and had one stolen base.
Eaton left Miami after his junior year and was selected in the 19th round of the first-year player draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks in June. He currently plays for their rookie-level affiliate, the Missoula Osprey. He was a star with the RedHawks, leaving the school as the career leader in triples, while ranking amongst the top ten for career doubles, stolen bases, runs scored, and total bases. In June, he was selected for the American Baseball Coaches of America (ABCA) / Rawlings All-Mideast Region second team for the second consecutive year.
It's great to see Eaton continue to thrive as he hits his stride at the professional level. Through his first 43 games as an Osprey, he's batting .397 (56-for-141), has an OBP of .533 and is slugging .596 for a phenomenal OPS of 1.128. He's collected seven doubles, three triples, and 5 home runs. That has allowed him to drive in 24 RBI while scoring 38 runs, and he has 16 stolen bases in 21 attempts. He's establishing himself as a very talented offensive weapon in Missoula's outfield. If he keeps on this hot tear, I'd be surprised if he doesn't get a promotion up to the next level soon.
