Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland is prepared to meet with Dallas Cowboys rookie receiver Dez Bryant tomorrow night, in order to offer a face-to-face apology for asking if his mother was a prostitute.
The Miami Herald report confirms a source from the Dolphins organization who says Ireland is trying to figure out the most opportune time to meet with Bryant about the issue.
The Dolphins face off against Dallas tomorrow night at Cowboys stadium and this will be the first time both Ireland and Bryant are in the same building since the controversy began.
Sometime before the NFL draft in late April, Bryant met with Ireland in an interview to see if he was a good fit for the Dolphins.
Well, according to Bryant, Ireland asked him if his mother was a prostitute, to which he replied, "No, my mother never worked as a prostitute."
After Bryant revealed the question posed to him in public, it drew a firestorm which quickly prompted Ireland to issue an apology.
Ireland also called and spoke to Bryant over the phone to apologize, but there were never any confirmed reports that he accepted Ireland's act of contrition.
Soon afterward, Ireland came out to defend his line of questioning saying he only asked Bryant if his mother was a prostitute after Bryant confirmed that his father was a pimp and that his mother worked for his father.
Nevertheless, the question still drew massive criticism of Ireland and the Dolphins organization overall for allowing such a question to be asked without any reprimand.
But clearly even now, Ireland seems to feel bad about the incident and is hoping a face-to-face meeting with Bryant will finally close a dark chapter in both of their lives.
Multiple reports on Tuesday said Dez Bryant would play for the Cowboys tomorrow night in Miami's final preseason game, despite being told he would be out four to six weeks after suffering a high ankle sprain on July 30th. However a report from ESPN today confirmed Bryant wants to play but will not, because according to Dallas owner Jerry Jones, the first team offense won't play and they don't want to risk any injuries.
However, Miami's first team is going to see game action as they are looking to bounce back and get a win after falling to Atlanta in an unproductive 16-6 loss Friday night.
Thursday night's game can be seen on CBS affiliate WFOR-TV at 8pm.
