ANGOLA, Ind. – Eric Watt passed for two touchdowns and ran for two others Thursday night as Trine won its season opener, a nonconference victory over Manchester of Indiana, 55-7 during Community Night at Trine.
Watt was 14-of-18 passing for 255 yards. Both of his touchdown passes were to Paul Curtis.
The Thunder also celebrated the opening of the Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.
“We kept our focus,” said Watt, who added 45 yards rushing. “We scored 21 unanswered quick and the defense held them scoreless.”
Curtis finished with five catches for 128 yards and those two scores. Holt graduate Cody Nash-Kniffen had two catches for 9 yards.
Ja Vontae Hence rushed for three touchdowns. He had 10 carries for 99 yards. Reggie Duncan (Williamston) carried once for 2 yards.
Trine led 34-7 at the half.
Sophomore Ryan Hargraves passed 75 yards to Wes Verner for the Thunder’s final touchdown.
Tully Chapman (Eaton Rapids) made two tackles, both solo.
