Georgia is at the proverbial "fork" in the road.

Path #1 - Continue to solve Georgia's transportation needs with additional asphalt, additional internal combustion automobiles, and increased pollution /traffic congestion.

Path #2 - Invest in transit systems that are not dependent on foreign oil, do not pollute our environment, can grow as Atlanta grows, and is accessible to everyone regardless of wealth, age or physical ability.

Right now, Revive 285 is seeking public comment on what transportation technology should be used to solve the north end perimeter traffic NIGHTMARE!

The project planners are setting up a perfect scenario whereby the only solution to expand capacity on the top end perimeter is to either, BUILD MANAGED LANES or BUILD BRT (BUS RAPID TRANSIT).

This state can not be allowed to make this decision without hearing from the public.  Click on the video below to view descriptions of various alternatives.  See how closely the proposed LRT transit stations resemble existing  MARTA transit stations.

Your response to #9 Additional Comments could be something like:

Why isn't MARTA the go to agency for the rail portion of this project?  GDOT is setting up a guaranteed failure of the rail option because there is no entity to operate the rail transit portion of this LRT alternative if chosen for this project.

LRT would require:

  • New purchases of rail cars,
  • New management teams,
  • New maintenance/service personnel,
  • New operators,
  • New security, and
  • New unknown transit technology untested/unproven in Atlanta.

The rail option is perfect for MARTA because this transit technology exists with everything the state needs to operate the rail system.  Costs for LRT and HRT are similar if the stations are not as robust as current MARTA stations.  We can build MARTA HRT along the north end perimeter in Fulton, Dekalb. and Cobb County (with special authorization like MARTA obtained to run transit service to Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport)

MARTA is the perfect solution for the top end perimeter congestion.  Why isn't MARTA rail the only alternative for this project?
