The Symbols on the Empress Card:
Ruled by Venus, the Empress is the embodiment of Mother Earth. Her voluptuous figure is draped in a gown imprinted with pomegranates which represent fertility. Her neck is adorned with the pearls of Isis. On her head she wears a crown of stars that symbolize the 12 signs of the Zodiac and the dominion over time.
The Empress sits on a red throne with a heart-shaped pillow with the sign of Venues emblazed on its surface. Venus is the planet of love, femininity, creation, beauty and grace. The Empress holds a scepter in her hands which represents her rule over the creative energies of the earthly plane. All around her are fields of wheat, the favorite crop of Isis. A river flows behind her which represents the connection to the subconscious.
The Meaning of The Empress Card
The Empress Card is the quintessential card for motherhood and the nurturing qualities of femininity. Sometimes, this card can quite literally mean pregnancy. Or it can mean the seed of a new idea or project that is just beginning to come to fruition. Often creative people consider their artistic endeavors an extension of themselves and are described as giving birth to a child. In either case, the card represents the surge of life and creativity that brings forth an idea into the world.
The Empress is the ruler of the Earth. She reminds us to commune with nature and to ground our ideas in practicality. Use your inspiration and nurture them through pragmatic means. This is the time to take calculated risks, expand your business or start a new venture. If you have been working on a previous project you will see your efforts start to blossom. Financial matters begin to thrive. Now is the time to reap the harvest of your hard work.
The Empress Card can literally mean your mother, a mother-like figure, your wife or any other woman in your life that has strong maternal or feminine energy.
Tarot Artwork in Tucson
The one great thing about learning Tarot is that there are so many beautiful, artistic decks to choose from that have their own unique twist on the traditional meanings. John Paul Marchand, a local artist, has been working on his own interpretation in a deck called, The Tempest Broog Tarot.
Each card starts off as normal picture from a typical photoshoot. From there, Marchand opens the picture in a variety of graphic programs adding objects and creating unique backgrounds. The end result are cards with an ethereal, frenetic energy like nothing you have ever seen.
