Lately, it seems that the Tampa Bay music scene is having trouble to fall under one umbrella term. Sure, it can be a good thing, we're in 2009 so the days of labels have long since passed. However, one of the most red taped, label-printers music group ironically, is the metal scene. With well over 22 sub genres in metal, we all have seen fans and critics been chewed up for getting a hybrid band the wrong genre. In Tampa, it's no different and sometimes more challenging to place certain bands. In an earlier article,
Tug was a troublesome band to label. To re-visit that same confusion, today's spotlight is on one of the fan favorite's at the
Rock Solid Pressure Industry Showcase 2009. A band that thrives off that 'F-You' attitude at their live shows.
The whole band.
With some of the cleanest vocals in the Tampa metal scene, yet the dirtiest mouth, is
Pushmower. Why they take their name from the most hated lawn equipment is a mystery, but they are far from hated. Clean vocals break away from the death metal stereotype- which they never claimed. Lyrics sung range from a warning ("
Kindness") to a search of joy ("
Happy") to even poor luck ("
Down On My luck"). But the melody is there, no matter which range this talented vocalist sings. Guitars set a groove in every song, which is helped out greatly by their finishing drums. Not the most brutal band, but a band that will be set in this scene for a long time.
So there is room for the bands that aren't so brutal they can spit blood? Well if there isn't, surely
Pushmower will have a few choice words to that. Here's a hint- it's not a "pretty please with a cherry on top". They are an onslaught of high energy, waiting to blast a new audience. Another unsigned band with their own website. You can check out more news on this wild and entertaining band at

Gregs' live performance makes me poop in the pants! One of the best frontmen that Florida has to offer, with his vocal delivery, body language flowing with his words, and his wide open eyes penetrate the crowd into submission. I really don't know why these guys aren't signed yet. GET MANAGEMENT MY GOOD SIRS!!!!
