Jackson Rathbone: 'Twilight' star takes on arson, murder, and Norwegian black metal

Jackson Rathbone

24-year-old Singaporean actor Jackson Rathbone made a huge breakthrough with his career through the hit movie 'Twilight' as Jasper Hale. He has made his staple amongst a fan base of hormonal teenage girls and with his upcoming movie 'Lords of Chaos', it is still up in the air whether the metalhead crowd will be welcoming him with open arms.

'Lords of Chaos' is based off of the book of the same title, 'Lords of Chaos: The Bloody Rise of the Satanic Metal Underground.' Rathbone plays Norwegian musician Varg Vikernes (A.K.A. "Count Grishnackh"), founder of the one man band, Burzum. The band was created in 1991 and named after a word written on the "One Ring of Sauron" in J.R.R. Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy. Many of the band's lyrics refer to the fantasy book series and many RPG's (roleplaying games) that Varg was interested in at the time.

While Burzum became famous in the Norwegian black metal scene, Varg Vikernes became infamous for the burnings of multiple Norwegian churches and for the 1993 murder of his rival, Mayhem guitarist Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth. Vikernes was arrested shortly after the crime and was sentenced to 21 years in prison where he served 16 years and was released in March 2009 on parole.

Regarding the original book form of 'Lords of Chaos', Vikernes has voiced his opposition that the book is a "pool of mud" and that it was made to "create a myth around [his] name and to mystify [him]." With that being said, Varg must be thrilled for the cinema release.

'Lords of Chaos' will be filming in fall 2009 and is set to be released in 2010. It will be the first English-language film for popular J-Horror director Sion Sono.

Of course Greven as he is known as here in Norway (yes it means the Count) hates the book and the movie if it puts him in a bad light..bad guys never like the truth..

Cudos to Jackson for taking on this role but if I am keen on seeing this dude's life being made into a movie? Not really. He doesn't deserve the honor to be honest. But nothing against Jackson. I am sure it's a great challenge for him and I hope he will do well. I MAY just go see the movie just cos of him! Not cos of Varg Vikenes...pfff lol

Maryann- Thanks for reading! You make a valid point because no doubt the movie will have more popularity merely for Jackson taking the role. I'm personally curious with how the movie will turn out, I'm definitely going to see it. (:
