Now this is an event every Houston metalhead should enjoy: the movie Until the Light Takes Us has found distribution and will be playing in Houston next month.
Previously, the film came for one night as part of a tour trying to get a major distributor interested in sponsoring it. Now that Variance Films has adopted Until the Light Takes Us, the film is back for permanent engagement.
Until the Light Takes Us is about the birth of what we now call "black metal," which was the fully-developed form of the music inspired by Sarcofago, Venom, Bathory and Hellhammer that erupted during the early 1990s in Scandinavia.
What makes this movie better than most "metal movies" is that it digs into the psychology of metalheads, and these specific metalheads, to show what inspired their music -- and radical acts of violence.
You can see Until the Light Takes Us at Alamo Drafthouse (West Oaks), which you get to by taking Westheimer to the West until you hit Highway 6.
There's also an Until the Light Takes Us - Houston fan page on Facebook and a myspace page, which you can join to show your support of this artistic and insightful film about one of the best-loved metal genres.
