Texas legends Rotting Corpse take to the road with longstanding arty speed metal maniacs Prong and post-Sepultura project Soulfly. If you haven't heard Rotting Corpse, they're a 1980s speed/death hybrid (think Rigor Mortis, Kreator and Exhorder) who have just re-released their demos on CD and are now kick-starting their career again touring.
Prong gained legendary status with their epic, self-consciously artistic Beg to Differ which combined progressive speed metal like Voivod with the groovier sounds coming from Exodus and Anthrax to make a brainy, hard-hitting CD. Since then, they've been exploring the progressive angles to this unique form of music.
Soulfly started out as a trend-hopper on the jump metal trend, but having burned through other trends like nu-metal, indigenous primitivist metal, and metalcore, they're now back to playing mostly Sepultura songs from the 1980s. That makes sense, because original Sepultura frontman Max Cavalera heads the band.
