"From the Depths" radio show: every Sunday night

Houston has a long-standing tradition of brutal underground metal radio with an esoteric, occult touch. Musician and DJ Wes Weaver (Blaspherian, Imprecation, Infernal Dominion) spins the discs and rants the blasphemy on KTRU 91.7 FM from 10 pm - 1 am every Sunday night.

Called "From the Depths," the radio show has been running solid for two decades and guided us through the hazy chaotic years of underground metal's formation, then stayed true to the old ways as metal veered off into the popular music realm during the 1990s and early 2000s.

If you tune in, you'll hear the best of old school underground death metal and black metal with any newer bands that keep up the old spirit. As a result, unlike most metal radio shows it sounds deliberate and makes sense, instead of being a mish-mash of random bands with guitars.

Wes is a man of few words but never wastes those, and so you'll get a brief introduction to the music along with the music itself. No word if he'll whip out a guitar and give us previews of the new Blaspherian album which should be arriving later this year, but we'll settle for the radio alone.

Thanks to the magic of the internet, you can listen online using your MP3 player, or tune in the old fashioned way to 91.7 on your FM dial. For kicks, you can also browse the KTRU schedule or check out the "From the Depths" myspace page.
