Metal: resurrection of the beast

The Arrogant Bastard himself will be here in September.

Many claimed that metal was dead in the nineties, and for a while it seemed to be the case with the birth and subsequent death of Grunge a few short years later.  Now it seems metal is returning to the limelight as more and more bands are beginning to gain record deals and old bands are touring with more frequency.

Another important aspect to this newfound love for metal is due to the heavy metal game on the horizon, Brutal Legend.

The next few months have some great concerts rolling into DFW and many metal heads are drooling in anticipation.  Mayhemfest came through this weekend, featuring such great acts as Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, and Behemoth.  One of the most legendary bands in metal, Motorhead is going to be in Dallas next month, and Dethklok will be here with Mastodon in November.

Metallica will also be in town, but are still considered sellouts by former fans that remember the days of Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning and then hear St. Anger.  It is true that the band seems to having a “return to form” as it were, but for many, Death Magnetic was too little, too late. This honestly is not a bad thing, beginning without the powerful fanbase it once had will force Metallica to work twice as hard as they once did, and this may be what they need to become what they once were.

Death Magnetic, it's hard to hear the music over this terrible water being sucked down a drain feeling the album leaves in my soul.

Quite frankly sir, I find your argument fallacious and pedantic. Why, everyone the world over (from the most fantastic of fanboys to the most inscrutable scrutinizers), acknowledges St. Anger to be Metallica's finest achievement. I also happen to think that Lil' Abner is hilarious, fried bologna sandwiches are delicious, and that Insane Clown Posse is the evolutionary perfection of the hip-hop style espoused by Tupac and Biggie.
